Students have a strong desire to know what is going on in the world, but the current news offerings aren’t meeting their needs.
They want to stay engaged, but more reading is the last thing you want to do as a student. Instead, they integrate news content into their social feeds, but they know it’s biased and can’t always be trusted. A partisan divide puts a strain on their relationships, so most can’t talk about the news with friends or family who have a different set of views.
This presentation outlines what we heard from students and some things we think news companies should be thinking about if they want to stay relevant.
